The 2008 Montana Depository Libraries Meeting was held on August 21, 2008, at the University of Montana in Missoula. The notes from the meeting have been posted.

The two presentations were:

  • Government Resources for Energy Information

Please let Jennie know if you have any additional questions.

2008 Spring DLC Meeting in Kansas City

The Spring 2008 Depository Library Council Meeting was held in Kansas City, MO, from March 31 through April 2. There are some particular highlights of the meeting that are worth noting:

  • GPO provided more details about the new public access assessments (which take the place of inspections). Public Access assessments begin with a review of a library's Biennial Survey responses and web site (looking in particular for public access policies and hours information). If GPO has questions after the initial review, follow-ups may include calling the depository coordinator, asking for policies or other library surveys, or a regional librarian visit. Assessment checklist and regional librarian visit forms are forthcoming. GPO is also working on mechanisms for public feedback on depository services and reminds depositories that they may request GPO assistance at any time (http://www.fdlp.gov/events/rfp.html).

  • The Kansas-Nebraska shared regional proposal was rejected by the Joint Committee on Printing (JCP), and the JCP has asked GPO for a study of regional depositories with a deadline of June 1, 2008.

  • GPO has a new contract for retrospective cataloging of depository materials (creating brief records), and Z39.50 access to the Catalog of Government Publications is now available.

  • The Government Information in the 21st Century project is looking to expand beyond the Southwest. Please let me know if you are interested in joining this project and providing training to non-depository librarians.

More details on sessions are included in my minutes from the meeting.

All handouts and slides from presentation have been posted on the FDLP Desktop in the file repository area. Here are a few key handouts:

  • Library Services and Content Management Update (GPO Update)
  • Public Access Assessments
  • CGP via Z39.50 Configuration and FAQ's Handout

    Montana State Plan 2006

When the revised Montana State Plan for Federal Depository Library Services was approved, I created a PDF file and posted it on the UM Library web server. When the new Mansfield Library website is launched, there should be a space for federal depository administration, which will include a link to the state plan. In the meantime, here's the current link:
