Handouts from 2006 Fall DLC

I am in the process of transcribing my notes from the 2006 Fall Depository Library Conference in Washington, D.C. However, I have already scanned some of the key handouts I picked up at the conference.

  • Depository Library Council, Update October 2006
This is the latest GPO Update handout.

  • Ellen Herbst Statement
The Director of NTIS announced a pilot project to extend free access to electronic NTIS documents to federal depository libraries.

  • Cooperative Cataloging of Pre-1976 Government Publications
The current status and questions relating to this idea

  • GPO's Digital Content System: Update for the Fall Conference of the Depository Library Council
This is the latest FDSys update handout. It has estimated dates of release and some interesting diagrams that help to show how the system will be structured.

  • Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC): Automated Metadata Extraction Project
I found the session on metadata very intriguing. DTIC has a promising model for automated metadata extraction.

Here are some of the handouts of questions for the Depository Library Council:

  • Metadata and Cataloging: Questions for Council
Baseline metadata requirements and cataloging priorities

  • Access Assessment and Marketing Questions
This document provides some insight into what GPO is thinking about concerning replacements for inspectors and marketing initiatives.

  • From Goals to Actions: A Regional-Selective Dialogue
This is the list of "provocative" statement geared to spark discussion.

  • Digital Distribution to Depository Libraries: Exploring the Issues
The discussion on digital deposit to libraries started in earnest.
